Bus Driver

The Bus Driver is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of each child enrolled in the program by following all policies and procedures listed in the YMCA Transportation Policy guidelines.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The Bus Driver is responsible for supervising program participants on their assigned bus.


1.Serve as a role model to members and Y staff and, at all times live the mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.

2.Drive school bus for participants in YMCA child care programs between branch locations and throughout community for field trips.

3.Assist child care staff with supervision of children and participants on the bus as needed.

4.Maintain a clean and safe bus by completing daily maintenance check of bus and requesting repairs as needed to ensure a clean and safe environment.

5.Prepare incident/accidents reports accurately, consistently and in accordance with established timelines and communicate to supervisor in writing.

6.Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.

7.Maintain CDL class B license with passenger endorsement.

8.Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.

9.Adherence to all policies and procedures of Scott County Family Y.

10.Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.

11.Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.

1.High school diploma/GED is required.

2.A minimum of one year of driving experience is required.

2.Must have valid CDL class B license with a passenger endorsement as well as a DOT physical.

  • Note: The * noted certification training programs are provided by SCFY staff and must be obtained within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to use fingers, hands, feet, and be physically able to drive a school bus. Must be able to sit, stand for long periods each day, able to lift up to 30 lbs., walk/climb stairs in order to assist with loading and unloading of passengers from the bus. The position requires mobility attentiveness to visual and audible signals to safety navigate the vehicle and transport participants. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a school bus and must be able to deal with varying elements of weather to effectively drive a bus. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts associated with school busses and the noise level can vary from quiet to moderate depending upon the number of participants and general noise from traffic.

Compensation: $$11.22 per hour
