Software Architect

Software Architect need for long term contract @ Rock Island Arsenal

The Software Architect is responsible for ensuring the strategic vision of the Project Architecture and Engineering is met and for effective delivery of services. The project is a large logistics application that supports ammunition shipment, with strategic focus on readiness and reliability. Initially, the position will involve mostly engineering functions, but will evolve to increase management as the scope grows.

The primary focus of this position is learning new technologies for specific products, requirements gathering, designing, coding, maintaining existing code, implementing new features/enhancements, keeping current with the latest trends in client side software engineering, and creating unit tests using technologies and tools such as JAVA, C++, Oracle, Netbeans, JavaScripts, SQL Developer, Team Foundation and Web programming. It will also involve design and development of secure web applications and implementing client-based java programs and applications to support the customer requirements.

The Architect will provide leadership and guidance to the Applications Team in support of software development efforts and foster teamwork . The ideal candidate will have proven leadership skills and strong, current industry/technical expertise.

Engineering Functions:

•Plan, design, code, configure, test and deploy Java and database interfaces across web, application and database servers.

•Develop complex secure web applications, client based applications and database programs to support the integration of client and enterprise applications.

•Perform systems integration & verification, develop test plans/procedures and execute test events

•Employ problem-solving skills using ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness

•Author technical customer presentations, test reports and technical deliverables

Management Functions:

•Work with the Project Manager to create a strategic vision for the Application and Development process geared towards DOD oriented frameworks and cybersecurity compliance.

•Ensure Customer objectives are met while aligning the team to the corporate vision and strategies

•Ensure successful delivery of project engagements as well as help drive follow-on work with existing customers

•Foster collaboration with peers between the Federal and Commercial organizational elements

Knowledge and skills:

•Expertise in Java, JavaScript and Java based technologies.

•Experience with and knowledge of C++, Oracle 11g.

•Experience with and knowledge of IDE like Netbeans, SQL Developer and Visual Studio

•Experience with and knowledge of repository tools like Team Foundation and JIRA.

•Knowledge of RMF( Risk Management Framework) is desirable.

•Vendor/Partner relationship management

•Ability to set goals and work independently

•Strong leadership, communication (oral/written) and organizational skills

•Effective presentation skills

•Ability to work under time pressure

•Proficient in MS suite of products including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.

•Proficient in the English language

Education and work experience:

•College degree or equivalent experience required

•8+ years of experience in software and change management process

•Previous people management experience required

•Experience developing GUI’s and web applications

•Knowledge of HTTP

Compensation: $80000 per year
